Infertility

Infertility is defined as failure to conceive after one year of regular, unprotected sex(at least twice in a week ) with the same partner. The chance of conception is 20% per month. On average nine out of ten will conceive during their first year while around one in twenty will conceive within two years.

I prefer to call “Sub fertility” rather than infertility, because there is chance  less to conceive naturally, unless and until there is small  rudimentary uterus, absent ovaries and both blocked fallopian tubes  or if the male has no sperms . There are various causes of sub fertility.

Female Factors for infertility

  • Abnormal shape and size of uterus
  • Lack of ovulation
  • Damaged fallopian tubes due to underlying diseases like- tuberculosis
  • Endometriosis

Male Factors for infertility

  • Low number of sperms
  • Defective sperms
  • Non-motile sperms

Medical causes for infertility

  • Defective blood clotting ,
  • Thyroid disease,
  • Uncontrolled sugar
  • High blood – pressure

Eventually chances of pregnancy is greatly increased with modern fertility treatments.
